This whole clean out project I had one major mission in mind. I wanted to clear out the clutter so I could create a special space for the kiddos! The overwhelming amount of toys has taken over the house and I wanted to create a space that would hold all the toys and the contain the mess. What I didn’t expect was to see how much they would flourish in this space. To see them play and express themselves is pretty magical. I also love that the they now have a space where they can do their art projects and not be fearful of them making a mess. It is also an added benefit that prior to this room being a kids room, it was our gym. So we have the gym flooring and we even had diamond plate on the walls so it the kids get paint on the walls, I can wipe it right off.
I am no where near finished in this space. To be honest, I need to go through the toys again. I already cleared out a lot but I wanted to take the next few weeks to observe how they use the space and from there I plan on getting some furniture to better organize the space. But rather than rushing in and making the room they way I thought they would use it, I wanted to see them play and then go from there. And let me tell you this goes against all my instincts, the waiting part. I always want to do things right away.
Here is what it looked like before! It basically was a gym with a whole lot of baby stuff and our overflow space. And man did a cram a WHOLE lot of crap in here.
This is what the space looks like now.
It very much is a work in progress but it has already made my life so much easier and they both love it so much. I actually noticed them play more together and to hear their laughter is honestly the best, it just makes my heart smile. Though Michael was sad to say goodbye to his gym, we both agree that this was the best thing we could have done.
I can’t wait to show you the finished product! I just need to find a way to make it a little better organized. I have noticed the more its organized, they better they like to play, they know exactly where things are and they actually are good about putting things back as well! I have been pleasantly surprised how well they keep the room and to be honest even if they do make a mess, it is so incredibly easy to straighten up because everything is in ONE room. It is AWESOME! I highly recommend it!

Beverley,
Thank you for the boost of confidence you have given me to “tackle” my home project of getting organized for my kids sake and also my own (okay, and hubby too). The play space you created for your kiddos looks great! I love the flooring idea. My kids are older(2 teens and a ten year old) and we don’t have much space but I know I can downsize the amount of our belongings and make our house feel less cluttered.
Thanks again for the inspiration to clear out the clutter and get myself organized.
Sincerely,
Carrie
