I can’t with this sweet little love. And to see her grow is bittersweet, I am slowly coming to the realization that she is no longer a baby, both my babies are now growing into amazing little humans. It’s awesome to have a cute and stylish way to measure their growth. Kenzie also loves being able to look at how much she has grown! She also enjoys seeing how much bigger she is than her little brother, I keep telling her to enjoy it for now because I am pretty sure Hutton is right on her tail and will be surpassing her soon.And I am so excited to share my code BEV for 15%off until October 21, 2017! Meet Lauren White of The White Loft
WHAT MADE YOU START YOUR BUSINESS?
= As strange as it sounds, I didn’t really plan to launch a business. White Loft grew out of a need for cute crib sheets for my son. I couldn’t find any – so I made them! During that time, I was also inspired to make my own growth chart (which I LOVED) because my son was growing too fast! Several friends then encouraged me to open an Etsy shop, and sell both sheets and growth charts. The sheets were eventually phased out, and the growth charts took over in popularity. Now, 4.5 years later, I have two “babies” and neither one sleeps in a crib anymore, but my husband and I love watching them grow!
WHAT DOES BEING A SMALL SHOP MEAN TO YOU?
= As a small shop owner I appreciate the physical and mental work, sweat equity and most of all heart, that goes into growing a business. My business started from a dining room table, so I understand humble beginnings. Sometimes you have to start small and just dive in – and that’s exactly what happened with White Loft – and I’ve never looked back. I love being fully invested in the entire process, from lumber selection to packaging designs and bringing that little piece of “small shop” to homes across the country. Hearing my customer’s stories propels me! And while there are always bumps in the road, there is a huge sense pride and self-accomplishment from being a small business owner. Plus, I love that my children are growing up witnessing the hustle!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PRODUCT YOU SELL?
= The wooden growth charts are my favorite! Not just an artful piece to keep markers off a wall, but truly a family heirloom. Although the canvas version is a close second. Each can be personalized for a true, custom keepsake. Customers often share with me their plans to pass it down to their children, or mark their grandchildren on the same ruler. It’s fun to watch those lines fill up each piece, and hear stories of how older generations were measured.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD?
= I am a mom of two littles, a giant dog named Cal and an even bigger cat — who are all willing to “help” with White Loft projects. Living in Austin, we love supporting several local places in our city and are so appreciative of those who shop small. It’s true… an actual person does a happy dance when you support a local shop! When we’re not playing outside, or working in the garage – you’ll probably find us around town eating our city’s beloved breakfast tacos. It’s an Austin thing; look it up!
